No matter what you call it, public restrooms aren’t always the most pleasant experience; the germs, unspoken etiquette…no one likes to talk about it, it’s can be a tender subject, but, Brightsider, today’s your lucky day! You're gonna find out why public toilet seats are shaped like a U (this isn’t what they’re like at home, right?), which stalls are cleaner than others, what exactly the proper Hand-Washing technique is and many other things! But these aren’t always an option. If you must put your drink or mug on the sink, put clean paper towels down first. - Rub the soap on top of your hands and between your fingers. Don’t forget to get under those nails! You should wash for at least twenty seconds. Rinse your hands completely and dry with a clean towel. - Make sure your hand sanitizer is at least 60% alcohol. Know that hand sanitizers don’t get rid of all types of germs. - If you’re out and you bump into someone you know in the bathroom, your first instinct might be to shake their hand or touch them with a greeting. Resist the temptation. - Keep the restroom a quiet place. Some of us have to concentrate. - Experts say that chatting at the sink while washing your hands is a no-no. They say that you should just focus on getting your hands clean and avoid eye contact. - Whenever possible, don’t pick the stall right next to somebody. Put a stall or two between you if the restroom isn’t crowded. - Say you’re standing in front of a one-person bathroom and you aren’t sure if there’s anyone inside. - It’s a little-known fact, but many public restrooms are equipped with a fan, a.k.a an exhaust fan. It will circulate the air in the bathroom, in case you aren’t able to leave it smelling fresh as a daisy. For over three years we have been working on developing an Interceptor project in the Rio Motagua basin in Guatemala, which suffers yearly trash tsunamis, devastating the environment. Subscribe to stay updated: 🤍 Geographic and municipal conditions mean an estimated 20,000 tonnes of plastic currently flows through the Rio Motagua into the Caribbean Sea on an annual basis. Based on this number, this one river alone is responsible for an estimated 2% of global plastic emissions into the oceans. In May, we trialed our Interceptor Trashfence, aiming to intercept up to 20M kg of plastic flowing through the Rio Motagua into the Caribbean Sea each year. The pilot phase is completed, we’ve disassembled the Trashfence, and we’ll study the learnings from this exciting trial. In this short Procreate tutorial we'll do the following to create a wiggly text animation ✔ Add a text and turn it into an outline (you can turn it on in the text editing menu) ✔ Lower the opacity of the text layer and make a new layer on top ✔ Trace the outline of your text ✔ Turn on animation assist ✔ Add a new frame and trace the text again ✔ Repeat this multiple times ✔ Remove the original text layer or turn it off ✔ Set the animation speed to 9 frames per second (or any speed you like) and set it to Ping-Pong ✔ Tap play and enjoy your animation! Let’s say that one morning you decide to take a relaxing stroll through your neighborhood jungle. Okay, you may not live near an actual jungle, but any marshy area with plentiful wildlife should satisfy this particular urge. You’re admiring the natural beauty of your untouched surroundings, and listening to the birds singing overhead when suddenly you find your shoes disappearing in the ground that used to be beneath your feet. Congratulations, you’ve trapped yourself in quicksand. That's what happens to people who decide to experience nature with basically zero planning. Uhhhh. You at least told someone where you were going, right? No? Well, that might have been a good idea. Anyway, the absolute worst thing you can do is panic and try to force yourself free. Doing so would be a good idea but isn’t always an option. - While that might seem like a terrifyingly terrible idea, remember what we’ve already established: it’s much easier to float in quicksand than in water. - Unless you have aquaphobia and your usual response to being partially submerged in water is to scream for help and flail about wildly. - Laying on your back will spread out your surface area, distributing your weight and increasing your buoyancy. At this point, you should begin to slowly and carefully raise your legs out of the quicksand. The emphasis should be on slowly. - Once your legs and most of your torso are on the surface it’s time to backstroke your way to safety. What you want to do is slowly and carefully paddle your way back to solid ground. - It’s important to take your time and be patient. While this might not sound like strenuous exercise, believe me when I say it’s no casual weekend swim. - The next step should be trying to get your shoes off. A good strategy is to find a stick and use it like a crowbar to pry your shoes from your feet. - What you need to do is separate the water from the sediment as much as possible, something that can be achieved by moving the submerged part of your body in small circles. - Sure, by now you’ll be dirty, cold and probably exhausted, but that was guaranteed the moment you decided to go hiking through a swamp. - Just be glad it was the wet kind of quicksand. Found in deserts, the Australian outback and the inside of grain silos, dry quicksand is much less common but radically more dangerous. - If you happen to find yourself snared in one of these grainy traps, your only hope is that someone knows you’re in danger.
